Can epoxy be used outside?

Yes. UltraClear Bar and Table Epoxy and Art and Craft Epoxy contains built-in UV inhibitors to help resist sun damage and keep the finish clear longer. Many customers have used them outdoors with great results, especially in indirect sunlight. However, no epoxy is 100% UV-proof, and prolonged direct sun exposure will eventually cause some discoloration or damage.

Choose the right epoxy for your project:

• Bar tops, tables and countertops: UltraClear Bar & Table Top Epoxy.
• Artwork, murals and white or light-colored backgrounds: UltraClear Art & Craft Epoxy, which offers the highest UV resistance in our lineup.

For surfaces exposed to direct sunlight, we recommend adding a high-gloss, UV-protective polyurethane, urethane or varnish after the epoxy has fully cured. This additional layer works alongside the epoxy’s UV inhibitors to help extend the life of the finish. Spraying is generally the easiest way to achieve a smooth, even coat; brushing requires more care.

We do not sell or recommend a specific topcoat, but these products are available at hardware stores and online. Because we have not tested every product for compatibility, follow the topcoat manufacturer’s instructions and test a small area first. Any added topcoat is used at your own risk.

Extreme temperatures can also affect epoxy. UltraClear is formulated to minimize the risk of warping or cracking, but it is not designed to be flexible.
