How do I keep Deep Pour colors from blending, and when should I swirl?

UltraClear Deep Pour Epoxy cures slowly, so batches poured together at the same time will mix and blend by default. Pour red and white side by side and you get pink. There is no set guide or timing for multi-color pours; it takes testing on smaller projects to find what works. Two techniques to try:

1. Mix each color in its own container and pour the batches out on opposite sides of the area so they only meet in the middle. This keeps blending to a minimum. 2. Set up temporary dams between the pours (wood covered in Tyvek tape), then remove them once the epoxy has begun to set up or gel enough that the pours no longer flow together. Remove the dams too late and you'll see seams between the pours; too soon and the colors blend.

For swirls, the first pass usually won't hold. Swirls added right after pouring settle and dissipate, so come back after an hour or so and swirl again, and keep re-swirling every hour or so until they no longer settle.

Gel time varies with every pour: a deeper pour or larger batch sets up faster than a thin pour or small batch, and room temperature affects it too, so there is no strict window that works for every project. Keep the room between 60 and 80°F. Around 70°F usually gives the best results, since cooler is better for keeping the Deep Pour from overheating.
