How long between Deep Pour layers, and do I need to sand between them?

Pour each new layer of UltraClear Deep Pour Epoxy 12 to 24 hours after the previous one. Inside that re-coat window the previous layer is still tacky and the new layer bonds to it, so no sanding is needed; just pour directly over it.

Each layer must be at least 1/4 inch thick (Deep Pour will not cure any thinner), and we recommend no more than 1 inch per layer. It can handle 2-inch pours, but that takes an experienced user and a cool, controlled room. Splitting a thick section into layers also keeps heat build-up down. A 1.5-inch pour can be 1 inch plus 1/2 inch or two 3/4-inch pours; either works the same. A 3-inch mold is three 1-inch pours.

Thinner layers take longer to set: a 1-inch pour dries in about 12 to 18 hours, while pours under 1 inch can take 24 to 48 hours. If you are placing objects between layers, how soon the epoxy is firm enough to hold them depends on the depth and volume of the pour, so test on a small piece first.

If you miss the window, let the layer cure hard (3 days), scuff it with 220-320 grit, clean with denatured alcohol or acetone, then pour. After your last Deep Pour layer, wait 3 days, sand and clean the same way, and pour your UltraClear Bar & Table Top Epoxy flood coat.
