Why does the epoxy calculator say I need so many gallons?

If the calculator's result looks far too high, check three things.

1. Square footage. Convert square inches to square feet by dividing by 144, not 12. One customer divided 21,228 square inches by 12 and got 1,769 sq. ft.; the correct figure is 147 sq. ft., which needs 17 gallons combined for one seal coat and one flood coat. 2. Depth. UltraClear Bar & Table Top Epoxy self-levels to 1/8" per flood coat, so every extra 1/8" you enter adds a whole additional flood coat at 16 sq. ft. per gallon. An 84" x 30" bar top at 1/4" needs 3 gallons combined for a seal coat and two flood coats inside raised edges (4 gallons if the epoxy flows over the sides). 3. Edges. If the epoxy will run over the sides, about 30% is lost to run-off and the estimate goes up. With raised edges that allowance isn't needed.

All estimates are in gallons combined: 1 gallon combined is 1/2 gallon of resin plus 1/2 gallon of hardener, not a gallon of each, and the figure covers both the seal coat and the flood coat.
