Why does the coverage calculator recommend more epoxy than the coverage chart?

The chart figure covers one flood coat only; the calculator adds up everything your project needs.

One gallon of UltraClear Bar & Table Top Epoxy covers about 16 sq ft poured on as a 1/8" flood coat, or about 48 sq ft brushed on as a seal coat. A flood coat is poured, not spread or troweled, and self-levels to 1/8" thick.

The calculator uses those same rates (the ones we've used for over 15 years) and then adds:

- The seal coat. It's included when you answer Yes to "Does your project require a seal coat of epoxy?" and left out when you answer No. Rougher wood may need more than one seal coat. - Pouring over the sides. You lose about 30% of the epoxy when it flows over the edges, so coverage per gallon drops by 30% unless you have raised edges. - Extra flood coats for a thicker build, such as two 1/8" coats for 1/4".

For example, a 15.3 sq ft top with one seal coat and one flood coat poured over the sides works out to roughly 1.7 gallons. Always order the next kit size up: a project that works out to 1.3 gallons still needs 2 Gallons Combined on hand.
