How much epoxy do I need for a seal coat per square foot?

A brushed-on seal coat uses far less epoxy than a flood coat. One gallon of UltraClear Bar & Table Top Epoxy covers about 48 square feet as a seal coat, compared with about 16 square feet as a 1/8" flood coat. In practice, one quart of mixed epoxy (16 oz. resin plus 16 oz. hardener) covers roughly 12 square feet when brushed on. For a 2' x 4' top (8 square feet), about 24 to 26 oz. of mixed epoxy is enough.

Mix seal coats in small batches at the 1:1 ratio, never more than 16 oz. of resin plus 16 oz. of hardener at a time. Stir by hand with a stir stick for 2 to 3 minutes until fully blended, then brush it on immediately. Mixed epoxy starts curing quickly while it sits in the container, so if you can't get a full quart brushed on right away, mix a smaller batch (8 oz. plus 8 oz.) and repeat until the surface is covered.

Don't paint it on thick. You only want a thin, even coating across the surface; the flood coat that follows builds the 1/8" glass-like finish.
