Can I apply epoxy over a laminate or Formica countertop?

Yes. UltraClear Bar & Table Top Epoxy works very well over laminate and Formica, and it's the product we recommend for kitchen counters, bar tops and table tops that get heavy use. It's a commercial-grade top coat that self-levels to about 1/8" thick and cures to a durable, glass-like finish, which makes it a good fix for scratched or dull laminate in high-traffic spots like a snack bar.

Because laminate is non-porous, you can skip the seal coat and pour the flood coat directly onto the clean, dry surface. It's dry to the touch in about 12 hours and cured in 72 hours.

One caveat for white laminate: every table top epoxy has a slight amber tone that only shows when a clear layer is poured over a bright white surface. If you want a clear pour over white laminate, use UltraClear Art & Craft Epoxy, which is formulated to avoid this (it's slightly less durable), or tint the Bar & Table Top Epoxy with white or grey Pigmently powder pigment so the tone can't show.
