Can I use UltraClear epoxy on a floor, and which product do I need?

Yes, for small floors. Use UltraClear Bar & Table Top Epoxy. It is the product customers use for bathroom floors, penny floors, and clear coats over hardwood, concrete, and ceramic or porcelain tile. It is our hardest, most scratch-resistant epoxy and cures to a glass-like finish built for high-traffic surfaces. Our floor guide also recommends a flooring urethane over the cured epoxy to protect it from scuffing.

Size is the main limit. Keep the area under 100 sq. ft. The job gets exponentially more difficult as the floor gets bigger, so a bathroom, entryway or similar small space is the sweet spot; we generally recommend staying within about 60-80 sq. ft. If your garage, shop or basement floor is larger than that, a standard flooring epoxy system is the practical choice instead of our products.

Check your surface before you start. Epoxy does not adhere to vinyl, so do not coat a vinyl tile floor. A small vinyl decal surrounded by plenty of bondable surface can be sealed with Mod Podge first, but test it. Paper items such as bills glued to the floor should also be sealed with Mod Podge before you pour. Whatever the surface, it must be completely dry and clean, with no dust, debris or contaminants. For a colored or marble-look floor, mix in Pigmently mica powders or liquid dyes and test the color on a small sample first.
