Can I use mica powder or pigments from another brand in your epoxy?

Yes. If you already have mica powder on hand, you can use it to tint UltraClear Deep Pour Epoxy any color you'd like; you don't have to buy ours. Our own Pigmently Mica Powder Pigments and Liquid Dyes are made for the job and are stable in water and solvent-based systems, but they aren't the only option.

For other colorants, the rule is simple: if it's a pigment made for epoxy, it should be fine. We haven't tested every brand, so always test on a small scale first before committing to a full project. Do not use paint. It doesn't mix properly with epoxy and can cause curing or appearance problems; use pigments made for resin.

One thing that doesn't work: stirring powder into the resin or the hardener by itself and using that to 'paint' details inside a mold. Pigment has to go into a batch of epoxy that is mixed and cured as normal. If you want different colors in different areas of a mold, mix a small batch of pigmented epoxy for each color and pour it into those spots, or pour the piece clear, demold it, and paint the details afterward.
