Can I coat a 3D sculpture, column, or vertical surface with epoxy?

Not in place. UltraClear Epoxy is a self-leveling liquid that cures over 72 hours, so it needs to be poured over a flat, level surface. We don't recommend it for rolling onto columns or other vertical surfaces.

For flat pieces that will be mounted vertically, such as a sign or a mural, the solution is simple: coat them lying flat and level, like a standard table top pour, and install them after the epoxy has cured.

For 3D or textured pieces such as a sculpture, the epoxy is not specifically designed for the job, since it's made to flow out into a smooth, glass-like layer. Some customers have had success carefully brushing a thin layer of UltraClear Art & Craft Epoxy over a 3D surface, and a heat gun helps smooth out brush strokes as much as possible. If you want to try it, test on a small area first to see how it adheres and cures on your specific piece before committing to the whole sculpture.
