Can I brush UltraClear epoxy onto a vertical or rounded surface?

UltraClear Bar & Table Top Epoxy is a self-leveling liquid designed to be poured over a flat, level surface, where it settles to its natural 1/8" depth. Brushing it onto a vertical or rounded surface falls outside that intended use, but many customers do it with good results.

The method customers use: 1. Brush the epoxy onto the vertical or curved face in thin, even layers. 2. Go over it with a heat gun to smooth out the brush strokes and remove air bubbles. 3. If you need more build, brush on another coat every 4-6 hours.

Customers have done this on backsplashes, waterfall edges on countertops, bowls, and other rounded or vertical pieces such as driftwood. Anything that can lie flat should still be poured horizontally and cured before it is stood up; brush only the faces you cannot pour. Every project is different, so test on a scrap piece first to confirm the finish suits you. On a suitable, sturdy substrate, there should be no issues with the cured epoxy deforming.

A few limits. The epoxy is not meant for table legs; it is designed for the top and sides of a surface, so use a high-gloss oil-based polyurethane or another finish on legs. Something like a fiberglass mannequin is outside the product's flat-surface design and would need your own testing to determine compatibility. For a piece with several parts, such as a chessboard on a base with drawers, finish each part separately and attach them after curing.
