Does epoxy stain from food, drinks, grease, or oil?
Cured UltraClear Bar & Table Top Epoxy is a non-porous surface that resists most common stains, but no epoxy is completely stain-proof if something sits on it for a prolonged period. The key is prompt cleanup, especially with highly pigmented liquids.
Grease and oil: not a problem. Once fully cured, the epoxy is oil resistant and holds up against cooking oils, motor oil and other petroleum-based substances under normal conditions, so a BBQ island or kitchen counter is fine. Wipe up spills in a timely manner rather than leaving them standing.
What can stain: harsh chemicals and liquids with strong dyes, particularly red ones such as red wine, cherry juice and products containing red dye. Wipe them up right away, especially on a light-colored surface. Pet urine can also leave a faint stain if it sits for hours; wipe accidents up immediately and clean with a mild, pH-balanced cleaner rather than harsh detergents or acidic cleaners.
To remove a stain, scrub thoroughly with soap and water first. If that doesn't work, use diluted alcohol or diluted bleach cleaner, or try lightly buffing or polishing the spot. As a last resort, sand the area with 220-320 grit sandpaper, wipe off the dust with denatured alcohol or acetone, and pour a new flood coat of Bar & Table Top Epoxy to restore the finish.
