How do I refinish or recoat an old, scratched, or cracked epoxy top?

You don't need to strip the old epoxy. Sand it and pour a new flood coat of UltraClear Bar & Table Top Epoxy over it.

1. Sand-scuff the whole surface with 220 to 320 grit sandpaper and sand any cracks out. An orbital sander is fine as long as you finish with 220 to 320 grit. 2. Wipe off the dust, then clean the surface with denatured alcohol or acetone. 3. Once it is clean and dry, mix the epoxy as instructed and pour a flood coat over the whole surface. It self-levels to 1/8 inch, fills the sanding scratches, levels out the cracks, and cures clear and glass-like again.

If you sand through to bare wood, re-do the seal coat before the flood coat; if a full layer of old epoxy remains, no seal coat is needed. Don't brush on a thin coat instead; the flood coat must be poured and allowed to self-level. We don't offer guidance on wet sanding or buffing; scuffing and re-pouring is the most consistent way to restore the finish.
