Can I use UltraClear epoxy on charcuterie boards, serving trays, and cutting boards?
Charcuterie boards and serving trays: yes. Cutting boards: no. Bowls: not recommended.
UltraClear epoxy has been used on serving trays and charcuterie boards for years. All three UltraClear epoxies are 100% VOC-free and cure into an inert, non-porous plastic, so incidental food contact is not an issue once cured. The two products most commonly used on charcuterie boards are:
- UltraClear Bar & Table Top Epoxy, which self-levels to 1/8" and gives the most durable, scratch-resistant finish. This is the top coat for a board. - UltraClear Deep Pour Epoxy, for boards with a void or river section at least 1/4" thick. Pour the deep section with Deep Pour, then top coat it with Bar & Table Top Epoxy for a protective layer.
UltraClear Art & Craft Epoxy is also food safe once cured and works on wood charcuterie boards and serving trays, with a 30-40 minute working time.
Do not use any epoxy, ours included, for an actual cutting board. Epoxy surfaces are not intended for direct cutting or food prep; keep a regular cutting board on hand to protect both the food and the finish.
Epoxy is also not recommended for bowls or similar food vessels; keep it to flat serving pieces like boards and trays. For kitchen items that hold utensils rather than food, such as 3D-printed drawer organizers, Bar & Table Top Epoxy works well.
