What should I use to polish epoxy after sanding it?

You don't need a polishing product. UltraClear Bar & Table Top Epoxy cures to a high-gloss, glass-like finish on its own, so the most reliable way to get that finish back after sanding or planing is to pour a new flood coat rather than buff the old one.

1. Finish your sanding with 220–320 grit sandpaper. The epoxy is dry enough to sand about 12 hours after pouring. 2. Wipe off all the sanding dust with a clean, lint-free rag and denatured alcohol or acetone. Do not use paint thinner (mineral spirits). Keep wiping until the dust is completely gone, then let the surface dry. 3. Mix and pour a new flood coat following the instructions. The new layer fills in the sanding scratches and cures clear and glossy again, as long as you mix and pour correctly.

Buffing is possible, but it is a difficult process that takes skill and experience, and it isn't something we have guides for. Some customers with polishing experience have had good results with 3M Finesse-It II, a high-gloss polishing compound. Too much speed overheats, smears or softens the epoxy; too little speed or poor technique leaves it cloudy or hazy. If you try it, test on a small, inconspicuous area first. Anything you do is at your own risk.
