How much time do I have to set bottle caps into the seal coat?

If you use the seal coat itself as the adhesive, set the caps within 20 minutes of brushing it on. Because of that window, work in sections: mix no more than 1 quart total per seal coat batch, which covers about 12 sq. ft., and only place caps within that area before brushing on the next batch. Then wait 24 hours before pouring the flood coat so the caps are fully secured.

UltraClear Deep Pour Epoxy cannot be used as a seal coat to get more placement time. It is only for pours 1/4" thick or more.

If timing is a concern on a long bar with a lot of caps, the easier route is to glue the caps down first. Most standard glues work, except hot glue, and a spray adhesive applied in sections also works. Once the caps are secured, brush the seal coat over them and pour the flood coat 4 to 6 hours later, the normal recoat window. Thin, small items such as plastic badges are also easiest to glue first.

For the flood coat, only UltraClear Bar & Table Top Epoxy is used. Mix no more than 1 gallon total at a time, and pour each additional batch within 20 minutes of the previous one so the batches flow together seamlessly. The flood coat self-levels to 1/8" over the caps and is the final coat.
