How much powder pigment do I need per gallon of epoxy?

There is no right or wrong ratio of Pigmently mica powder to epoxy; the amount depends on how opaque you want the color and how it looks to you. As a starting point, figure about 1 gram of powder per 8 ounces of mixed epoxy and add more until you reach the color you want.

In practical terms:

- One 51 g container is more than enough for a gallon of epoxy and will tint 1 to 3 gallons depending on how heavily you use it. For a roughly 4-gallon bar top flood coat in one color, order two 51 g containers so you have plenty on hand. - A 5 g container colors about 40 ounces (about 1.25 quarts) of epoxy to a solid color, and more if you want a translucent look. - 51 grams is roughly 10 teaspoons if you are measuring by volume.

To mix, measure the hardener into the mixing container first, add the powder to the hardener slowly until you reach the color you want, then add the resin and mix as normal. Adding it slowly matters: powder that never fully blends into the hardener shows up as uneven, lighter patches in the pour. Mica powders also have a slight natural light-and-dark variation, but the color should still be opaque as long as enough pigment is added.

Always do a small test batch first. Each person sees color differently, and the color of the surface under the epoxy changes how the finished color looks.
