My seal coat separated or has pockets - can I re-seal and continue?

Yes, as long as the separation isn't caused by something on the surface. A seal coat of UltraClear Bar & Table Top Epoxy that has pockets, bare spots or missed areas can be re-sealed:

1. Let it harden (past 10 hours), then lightly sand-scuff the cured epoxy with 220 to 320 grit sandpaper. 2. Wipe off the dust with a clean rag and denatured alcohol or acetone. 3. Brush on a second seal coat. Always apply seal coats with a brush. 4. Pour the flood coat 4 to 6 hours later.

Some surfaces need more than one seal coat anyway. Porous wood and knot holes can take 2 to 3 seal coats before they stop releasing air into the flood coat.

If the epoxy fish-eyed or pulled away from spots, don't proceed to the flood coat. That means residue or an incompatible finish is on the surface (silicone and oil-based stain are the usual ones), and pouring over it would fish-eye again or delaminate. Strip the residue first. For an incompatible finish, sand down to the wood, apply 3 coats of oil-based polyurethane, let it dry at least 24 hours, then seal coat as normal.

Seams or voids 1/8" or deeper should be filled first, in 1/8" layers every 4 to 6 hours, before the seal and flood coats; shallower ones level out under the flood coat.
