How do I epoxy a bar top with a bar rail or drip rail?

Pour the top the same way you would any other surface and finish the rail separately.

1. Install the bar rail first so the flood coat runs right up to it. 2. Run a bead of latex acrylic caulk along the seam between the top and the rail so the epoxy can't leak out. Apply UltraClear Bar & Table Top Epoxy to the top as normal. It self-levels to 1/8" per flood coat, so if you want about 1/4" of epoxy inside a drip rail, pour a second 1/8" flood coat 4–6 hours after the first. 4. Finish the rail itself with a high-gloss oil-based polyurethane or another wood finish. Epoxy won't level properly on the slope of a rail. If you still want epoxy on the rail, brush it on the way you'd apply a seal coat, smooth the brush strokes with a heat gun, and add more coats every 4–6 hours. That's at your own risk: the finish won't always be seamless, so test on a scrap piece first.

If you used a temporary dam at the drink rail instead and it left a slight raised edge after you removed it, sand or router that edge down level with the top, then restore the gloss by pouring a new layer of resin over it or by buffing and polishing.
